To make science benefit humanity and not become a curse
Einstein
I am very pleased to see your thriving team of young people specializing in applied science.
I can sing a hymn to praise the progress made in applied science; And undoubtedly, in your own lifetime, you will push it even further forward. That's why I can say these things because we live in the era of applied science and the hometown of applied science. But I don't want to talk like this. I think of a young man who married an unsatisfactory wife. When asked if he felt happy, he replied, "If I were to tell the truth, I would have to lie
My situation is exactly the same. Imagine if a less civilized Native American had less experience and happiness than typical civilized people? I don't think so. It is worth pondering how children in all civilized countries enjoy playing as "Native Americans".
Why does such a remarkable applied science, which not only saves labor but also makes life more comfortable, bring us so little happiness? The frank answer is that we have not yet learned how to use it legitimately.
During times of war, applied science gave people the means to poison and kill each other. In times of peace, science makes our lives hasty and unstable. It did not liberate us to a great extent from the monotonous labor that must be completed, but instead made humans slaves to machines. The vast majority of people work tirelessly from day to night, with no joy in their labor and often fearful of losing their meager income.
You would think that the old man in front of you is singing an unlucky counterpoint. But my purpose in doing so is to give you some advice. If you want your lifelong work to be beneficial to humanity, then it is not enough for you to only understand the application of science itself. Caring for oneself should always be the main goal of all technical endeavors; Concern about how to organize human labor and product distribution, which are major unresolved issues, to ensure that the achievements of our scientific thinking will benefit humanity and not become a disaster.
Don't forget this when you're immersed in charts and equations!
